“It is not the absence of evil that perpetuates goodness. That alone is the province of the teachings of the Vigors, and is to be found in the hearts of men of endowed blood. It is, however, the absence of goodness that allows evil to survive.”

  • Savage Messiah News & Prologue Posted
Savage Messiah, Book One in The Destinies of Blood and Stone trilogy, continues the story of the Chosen Ones originally started in The Fifth Sorceress, The Gates of Dawn, and The Scrolls of the Ancients. Robert has been finished writing and editing Savage Messiah for many months now, and Del Rey will release it in hardcover Febrary 2006.

The cover art will be supplied by world-renowned artist Brom.

Due to the length of publication time between The Scrolls of the Ancients and Savage Messiah, Robert decided that it would be great to give the fans a taste of the new book every month that lies between its original publication date of June 2005 and the new one of February 2006. Therefore, starting in May 2005 with the prologue, Robert and The Chronicles of Blood and Stone website will release a chapter a month of Savage Messiah until February 2006!

To begin Savage Messiah, click Prologue!

  • Savage Messiah News

    A Letter To My Readers:
    January 11, 2005

Hi folks. I’m writing to tell you that I have some good news and some not-so good news. Here’s the not-so-good news: Although Savage Messiah was delivered to Del Rey smack on my deadline, (July 1st, 2004), the publication date has been delayed until February, 2006. Now here’s the good news:

Because of the delay, Web Druid and I will be posting the first seven chapters of the book--one per month--starting on July 2005. That will give you a monthly fix, right up to February when the book arrives in the stores. I realize that this delay is not welcome news, but the folks at Del Rey have their reasons. Like us, they want what’s best for the books in the long run.

The reasoning is as follows: First of all, Terry Brooks has a new book coming out next summer, and they don’t want us going head to head. (Not that he has much to fear from me!) They then thought about bringing “Messiah” out next Christmas, but that is a very poor time to launch new books—they tend to get lost in the holiday shuffle. So that leaves a pub date of some time after the holidays. In our case, it’s February.

The second reason for the delay is that Del Rey says they want to “take their time with this one, and do it right”. When the time comes, you’ll probably be seeing things like, “The Long-Awaited Fourth Volume…” etc., and perhaps a boxed set of the first three books. As of this writing my agent and I don’t really know what “doing this one right” actually means. But if it implies that they’re going to devote more money and effort to publicizing the series, I can’t complain. (The fact is that I can’t complain anyway. They control the release dates and publicity, after all.)

I want to thank each and every one of you who supports our web site and reads my books. You’re the reason I do this. Savage Messiah might arrive later than you’d like, but I think that once you get your hands on it, it will be worth the wait. Hopefully, from February ’06 onward another COB&S book will arrive each February-- twelve months apart, like they have traditionally done. And I’ll continue to be around, adding my comments and questions to our growing web site every day. Webby and I will also see what we can come up with in terms of another contest, a live chat, etc., to keep things lively.

This new date is pretty firm. But if you want to write Del Rey regarding this issue, (or about anything regarding my books in general), here’s the address:

    Editor-In-Chief
    c/o Del Rey Publishing
    18th Floor
    1745 Broadway
    N.Y., NY. 10036

Thanks for your patience. You keep the faith, and I’ll keep typing!

    All the best-- Rob.

  • A Savage Review
One of the best things about reading an author like Rob is that we can expect a book every single year - he works hard every morning on the computer and spends his evenings with his imagination, and it is that kind of dedication that puts a book in our hands every June.

Rob enjoys writing the novels as much as we do reading them, but I think he takes a great enjoyment in our reaction to his story. Once Savage Messiah was edited and officially turned in, Rob turned over his new novel to two people - one of which was Wizz, Redoubt Moderator and avid fantasy reader. Rob and I felt it important that Wizz write a review of his Savage reading experience.

Click HERE to read his review and what to expect in June 2005!

  • A Marching Change
It was reported in August that Savage Messiah was wrapped up and Rob had started a new project - March Into Darkness. That title has now changed, and the new title is Crucible of the Gods. This title may also change, but I think it is safe to say that if it does Rob will give us another great title.

And because Rob really enjoys showing glimpses of what he is currently working on, he has asked that Chapter Five from Crucible of the Gods be posted on the website! So HERE it is! Enjoy!

  • Another Book Venture
We all can pretty much bet that we will have a Robert Newcomb book yearly. That's the pace at which Rob writes. He has, however, written several chapters in a modern day thriller - a thriller with fantasy overtones. Rob blends our modern world with his passion and fascination with martial arts. Here is Chapter One from his other project, titled Curse of the Katana.

  • Fourth Book Finished!
With fans who have finished reading The Scrolls of the Ancients wanting more, I am happy to report that Savage Messiah, Book Four of The Chronicles of Blood and Stone, is now finished and resting comfortably with its editor. It has a tentative release date of June 2005. But the fun news is Rob has just recently begun work on the next book in the series, titled tentatively, March Into Darkness! More news when it becomes available.

  • A Note From Rob
The News section of the website is partially up and running, enough to actually be able to give you guys some updates on what is currently happening in the saga The Chronicles of Blood and Stone. Rob has posted a letter below for the fans, so read on!

WELCOME, BUT BEWARE ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE!
    WIZARDS, SORCERESSES, DARK MAGIC,
    AND MONSTERS AWAIT YOU INSIDE!
DO NOT SAY THAT YOU WERE NOT WARNED…

    Hello Readers!
Welcome to The Chronicles of Blood and Stone! As the author, I wish to thank you for your continued support, and I hope that you enjoy reading my saga as much as I enjoy writing it for you. I can promise you a great many more twists and turns in the books to come, and a good deal more about how my brand of magic works in these lands I call Eutracia and Parthalon. Our little band of heroes has already gone through a great deal, as they try to unravel the secrets that will one day allow The Chosen Ones to combine the opposite sides of the craft of magic. But as you will learn with the coming of subsequent volumes, there is much, much more to tell…
The first volume of the saga, entitled The Fifth Sorceress, began this journey. Sold as part of a trilogy in what many believe to be the highest first-time fantasy deal ever negotiated, the audio version of the book was nominated for the 2002 Audie Award in the category of Sci-Fi / Fantasy, and its author was nominated by the British Sci-Fi / Fantasy Book club for The Best New Voice Award of 2002. Since then, the Rights to publish The Fifth Sorceress have been sold to the UK, Holland, Russia, Poland, Germany, and Italy. The Fifth Sorceress was also chosen by the US Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Club as a featured selection in June, 2003, as well as the Sci-Fi / Fantasy selection of the month, by Ottakar’s retailers in England. In the UK, The Chronicles of Blood and Stone are published by Transworld Publishers, London.
The Gates of Dawn - the second volume in the series - was released in June, 2003. The third volume, entitled The Scrolls of the Ancients is tentatively slated for publication during the summer of 2004, and I believe it to be the most exciting and illuminating volume yet. The fourth book, tentatively entitled Savage Messiah, is now underway.
Once again, let me say thank you for your marvelous support, and your interest in my work. I will visit the site as much as time allows, and I will do my best to answer your questions without giving too much away! (Watch out for spoilers!) Queries about the craft and the characters are always appreciated, and far more helpful than you might think! After all, Wigg and Faegan might be brilliant, but they don’t know everything! This site was built for you - the readers. So feel free to join in. For without you, there would be no books. And last, (but surely not least), a big thank you goes to Shawn Speakman, (otherwise known as Web Druid), for all of his great work in the construction and design of this site. And to my ever-supportive agent, Matt Bailer, and all of the very kind folks at Del Rey, who brought The Chronicles of Blood and Stone to the public with such marvelous zeal and enthusiasm.
All the best! Please enjoy the site! (Gotta get back to work now!) -- Rob

  • Scrolls of the Ancients
The third book in The Chronciles of Blood and Stone, titled The Scrolls of the Ancients, has been written and is now being edited. It's tentative release date is June 2004. More information on this book, excerpts, etc., the closer we come to 2004.

  • Redoubt of the Directorate

That's why on this website we have built The Redoubt of the Directorate, where fans can post their thoughts - and respond to others - concerning The Chronicles of Blood and Stone. Sign up, post messages to Rob (yes, he is lurking around and will do his best to find the time to answer anything posted to him) and other fans, and enjoy!
